About Our Group

Quilters & Patchworkers of Otago (Q & P) has a good range of members, young and old, city and rural quilters.

We hold work days mainly on Saturdays but sometimes on a Sunday where you can work on your own projects.

Three times a year we hold a weekend where you can patch and quilt uninterrupted from your daily chores.  You get to sleep in your own bed. Once a year you can get away from it all and spend the weekend at our retreat.

Over the years Q &P has hosted quilt makers of international and national acclaim and is always actively pursuing opportunities to promote quilting.  We have been fortunate to classes tutored by our own members who are teaching within NZ and internationally.

We also run an exhibition bi-annually.

Local charitable organisations benefit from the generosity of the group members with regular donations of quilts.

Exhibition of “Natural Wonders of the World”

We are excited to host an exhibition of “Natural Wonders of the World”, an international quilt challenge.

Aotearoa Quilters were invited to participate in the International challenge by NHQG – a Japanese quilting group. Thirty quilters from New Zealand, France and Japan are involved, ninety in total.  Each quilter was given a topic – a natural wonder. The same topics were used in each of the three countries resulting in three different perspectives on each topic.

The quilts have been exhibited in Japan and are now here in New Zealand. They will travel to France in August for their exhibition in September.

The quilts will be on display in Dunedin at The H D Skinner Annex, Otago Museum, 361 Great King Street Dunedin (Old Dunedin North Post Office) from Friday 11 May 2018 to Sunday 13 May. The opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily.   $5 entry

This is a unique opportunity to compare styles of the 3 countries as the 30 subjects are interpreted in different ways.
